Straining to urinate, especially a male cat
Road traffic accident, fall or bite wound
Whelping/queening longer than 30 minutes with no delivery
Heatstroke — panting, drooling, unsteady after sun exposure

While you travel

Call the clinic first so they can prepare for your arrival.
Keep the animal warm, quiet and confined — a towel-lined carrier or box.
Do not give human painkillers. Paracetamol and ibuprofen can kill cats and dogs.
For bleeding, press a clean cloth firmly over the wound and keep the pressure on.
For heatstroke, wet the coat with cool (not iced) water and keep air moving.
For suspected poisoning, bring the packet or a photo of what was eaten.
Do not induce vomiting unless a vet has told you to.
